Territorial Acknowledgement
This conference takes place at the University of Waterloo, Canada and the University of Melbourne, Australia. In an effort to continue the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada and the Australian Declaration Towards Reconciliation we seek to make space for underrepresented voices within academia, games studies, and games work.
As such, if you self-identify as Indigenous (Innuit, First Nations, and Métis) or as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, we offer free registration. Please email us for a discount code.
The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg, and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
The University of Melbourne is situated on the traditional unceded lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong peoples (Burnley, Fishermans Bend, Parkville, Southbank and Werribee campuses), the Yorta Yorta Nation (Dookie and Shepparton campuses), and the Dja Dja Wurrung people (Creswick campus). We pay respect to Elders past, present and future, and acknowledge the importance of Indigenous knowledge in the Academy. As a community of researchers, teachers, professional staff and students we are privileged to work and learn every day with Indigenous colleagues and partners.
